Free Agency opens tomorrow
Tomorrow opens the first day of free agency, where we will see a lot of the top names off the board almost immediately. Since teams were allowed to contact players Saturday, we have heard just about every rumor possible for each free agent. If you’re not sure who is available for your favorite team, take a look at my list I posted Saturday night of the top 5 free agents at each position. I’ll post some of the bigger signings on my weekly wrap up next week.
Rashard Mendenhall retires from the NFL
Since tearing his ACL in 2012, Mendenhall hasn’t been the same. He hinted at the thought of retiring in his article on the Huffington Post. He said, “And as I write this, today is the day that the journey is over and I am fully at peace. Eagerly looking to a new way, which lies ahead.” The former first round draft pick retires after a short 6 year career.
Cassell and Henne resign
Both Matt Cassell and Chad Henne signed two year deals with the Vikings and Jaguars, respectively. The Jaguars have the third pick in the draft and the Vikings own the eight pick in the draft. These two signings didn’t make major headlines but are meaningful for a different reason. These two signings could mean a couple things. Both the Jaguars and Vikings have quarterback needs and are in position to possibly get Bridgewater, Manziel or Bortles. Signing their own quarterbacks back means that they have plans to either bring in another veteran free agent, or draft a quarterback in the later rounds. What do they know about the top 3 quarterbacks and why don’t they see them as their answer to the position?
